Communiqué #1: The Qurān of the Resistance
Islām as the Beating Heart of Palestine’s Anti-Colonial Struggle

﷽
Bismi Allāh Al-Raḥmān Al-Raḥīm
(In the name of Allah the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful).
“And we warned the Children of Israel in the Scripture, ‘You will certainly cause corruption in the land twice, and you will become extremely arrogant. When the first of the two warnings would come to pass, We would send against you some of Our servants of great might, who would ravage your homes. This would be a warning fulfilled.’” (The Holy Qurān, Chapter 17, “The Women,” Verses: 4-5)
- Abu Obeida, January 19th, 2025, Day 471 of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood
October 7th, 2023 is the final curtain call.
In the above verse, Abu Obeida, spokesperson for al-Qassam Brigades, reminds us that the Qurānic prophecy of Israel’s destruction is sealed. It is a last warning that assuredly will be fulfilled. This is indeed the final apocalyptic war.
In each speech, video, and military operation, our beloved and resilient Palestinian mujahideen (resistance) call upon the Qurān and their religious and spiritual commitments to Allāh for guidance, strength, direction, and steadfastness. Islāmic wisdom permeates through every act and moment of bravery committed by the resistance, from how they engage in strategic and spiritual preparation for the Al-Aqsa Flood to how they treat prisoners of war.

Our valiant mujahideen do not quote Mao, Lenin, Marx, or Fanon like many Euro-American leftists project unto them: They quote the Qurān and center Allāh.
An accurate analysis of the resistance requires that we understand the Islāmic roots that underscore their commitments by speaking dignifiedly, internally, to Muslims in our framework's language and tradition, without the prying eye of Euro-American secular leftist extrapolations. When we dive into the mujahideen’s commitments and Qurānic interpretations, they offer a vast and vital window into their unshakeable commitment to Islām, and Islām’s prominent role in the struggle. One that has enabled them to build and sustain a robust, spiritually rooted anti-colonial struggle through sumūd (steadfastness) against Crusaders, Zionists, and Muslim normalizers.
Each image and word uttered by our mujahideen and archived by our martyrs (whose wounds on the Day of Resurrection will be the color of saffron with fragrance of musk) are infused with Qurānic significance.
In the backdrop of Abu Obeida's March 6, 2024 speech, was a Qurānic verse that glistened below images of the Al-Aqsa and Al-Ibrahimi mosques. It is a verse that has appeared countless times before. Enshrouding Abu Obeida’s glow, the verse from Chapter 35 titled “The Originator” reads: “And the (conniving) plotting of such [evil] people is doomed to fail" (10). In this verse’s constellation is an Orion of other threaded verses that smolder: “They planned, but Allāh also planned. And Allāh is the best of planners" (Chapter 8, “The Spoils of War,” Verse: 20), and "They are certainly devising evil plans, but I too am planning" (Chapter 86, “The Night-Star,” Verses: 15-16).

These verses reveal that Crusading-Zionist Euro-America and Israel, the enemies of Islām and all freedom fighters, may hide their wicked mischievous plans, indeed they may even seem to egotistically possess the ‘most artificial intelligence agencies, might, modern weaponry and industrial complexes’ on earth, but they neglect that all is visible to Allāh, including every atom’s weight of good and evil within our hearts.
The resistance’s emphasis on the verse emphasizes their ironclad belief as Muslims that the enemy forgets and is blind to the fact that Allāh is more diabolical than them. That Allāh will punish them and deliver victory by humble servants of great might: Those who may hold less material power and sophisticated weaponry, yet who are of the conviction and unwavering faith that they did not throw and strike the enemy, but rather it is Allāh who threw and delivered each devastating defeating blow.
The Kiss of Life: Al-Aqsa
Our mujahideen have always maintained that their red line is Al-Aqsa Mosque. Al-Aqsa is the emblem of Islām and Allāh, with its health a sign of the health of the Ummah. The Ummah is often translated to mean the global community of Muslims, but the Qurān arguably defines the Ummah in an expanded way, as a global community of believers, including Muslims and non-Muslims alike who are anchored in principles of justice and freedom from tyranny.
The Zionist entity’s relentless 77-year aggression upon our Al-Aqsa is the reason behind the namesake of the mujahideen’s blessed October 7th operation. Following years of silent, organized, underground planning, Allāh willed the operation’s commencement and lightning-quick success.
Upon its resounding victory, our shaheed (martyr) General Yahya Sinwar, announced with glad tidings that the petulant child “Israel” was defeated. He called our attention to the fact that we now, finally, confront its devil parents who gave birth to it and sustain it: The “American and British military.” This is the centuries-long Euro-American crusading project that spans from Turtle Island to Palestine.
From Hamas’ elderly wheel-chaired founding father Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, who Israel murdered in 2004, to his successor, Abdel Aziz al-Rantisi, who Israel killed 26 days later, the red line of Al Aqsa mosque. was always clear. Following their martyrdom, the point of no return and the lineage of Al-Aqsa as the mission was then transmitted and bequeathed to a new generation. This cohort included the late Chairman of Hamas’ Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh, General Yahya Sinwar, and Field Commander of Al-Aqsa Brigades Muhammad Al-Deif – all of whom emphasized the enshrined religious undergirding of the muqawama (resistance), underlined by the supreme significance of Al Aqsa.

Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem are the context upon which the end-time apocalyptic narratives unfold in occupied Palestine.
One in which Muslim, Jewish, and Christian messianic tales are birthed to fruition in the culminating apex of a long-protracted racial and religious war on Islām and Muslims. Unlike Orthodox Jews who abide by the Talmudic dictum that Jews shall not go back to “Eretz Yisrael” (the land of “Israel”) with force – for accelerationist Zionist Jews, Al-Aqsa and Jerusalem are the scene in which the Third Temple is to be built in the place of Al-Aqsa. It is where red heifers will be sacrificed to herald a Jewish messiah. For Zionist-Christians, it is the location of Christ's return to earth to supplant non-Christians, heralded by the Rapture (the second coming of Christ). For Muslims, it is where Muslims accompanied by Issa (Jesus) and the messianic figure the Mahdi (an awaited descendent of Prophet Muhammad) will emerge to wage war against the anti-Christ and Zionists of all stripes, until peace and fruitful bounty flourish on earth once again.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) foretold that: “The last hour will not come before Muslims fight Zionists and Muslims will kill them, as Zionists hide behind stones and trees and the stone and the tree will say, `O Muslim, O servant of God, there is a Zionist behind me; come and kill him.' The only exception will be the boxthorn, for it is one of the trees of Zionists."
This prophecy references the invasive pine trees planted by Zionists across occupied Palestine and foretells that the earth and trees will come alive to testify and support freedom fighters in defeating Zionist tyranny.
The Al-Aqsa Masjid (mosque) is of tremendous significance to Muslims because it was the primary Qiblah (the first direction Muslims prayed to) prior to our realignment to Mecca’s Kaʿbah (the House of Abraham). Al-Aqsa Mosque is also where Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) descended from heaven during a night journey known as al-’Isrā’ wal-Miʿrāj to pray and lead all the Prophets in prayer from Adam to Abraham to Jesus and Moses as expressed in Chapter of the “Stars,” Verses: 1-18 and the Chapter of the “Night Journey,” Verse: 17.
Our mujahideen fight in the name of life and death, knowing full well that the Qurān states: “Allāh has indeed purchased from the believers their lives and wealth in exchange for Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allāh and kill or are killed. This is a true promise binding on Him in the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qurān. And whose promise is truer than Allāh’s? So rejoice in the exchange you have made with Him. That is ˹truly˺ the ultimate triumph” (Chapter 9, “The Women,” Verse: 111).
For while our mujahideen celebrate livingness, they understand full well that this earth’s material seductions, and even children who represent adornments are fleeting. That everlasting deeds in the name of justice are of far greater reward and hope in a world whose heart is blind and refuses to break at the sight of despotism, oppression, and human shackling and misery.
As Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us and our mujahideen, the parable of life is that we are nothing but riders, travelers, resting and seeking shade underneath a tree, catching our breath, before we depart and leave to the real world seeking the modest sight, forgiveness, and grace of our beloved Creator and the salvation of our souls in the name of an All-Mighty calling.

Recentering Islām and Spirituality in Political Struggle
Our mujahideen represent one, if not the most robust anti-colonial movement, in the world at present. One that emerges from below, centers the poor, orphans, the elderly, women, and children, and uses a Qurānic understanding of the Ummah as a blueprint - not only for strategy, but as an ethical compass providing nourishment for enduring spiritual fortitude.
Islām is inextricably core and central to the Palestinian struggle for liberation, yet Euro-American leftists tend to ignore, downplay, dismiss or misinterpret this crucial religious underpinning - in what is often dismissively referred to by Orientalists as "Islāmism" - because of Islāmophobia, racism and the fact that they lack the necessary fluency to grasp so-called ‘political Islām’ and Qurānic wisdom.
Orientalists often misinterpret the very definition of Islām as ‘submission’ to suggest blind obedience, when it means to be engaged in willful surrender and choice-based deliverance - to actively participate in deep-seated reflection and critical thinking. In fact, the very first words uttered by the Angel Gabriel to Prophet Muhammad, who could neither read nor write, were: Read, Read, Read.
The resistance, through their daily living and their triumphant Al Aqsa Flood operation, embody an Islām that affirms the Qurānic teaching that “How many a small company has overcome a large company by permission of Allāh” for “If there are twenty steadfast among you, they will defeat two hundred, and one hundred among you will defeat a thousand of those who disbelieve” (Chapter 8, “Spoils of War,” Verse: 65). Look at what just a few thousand faithful and organized mujahideen were able to do to upturn the world and strike the tyrant Goliath.
Our mujahideen fight injustice wherever they find it, whether that be within themselves in the form of al-Jihad al-Akbar (the Jihad of the self) or in the tyranny wrought by imperial crusading Zionist settler-colonial structures which suffocate us all.
We and our mujahideen constantly battle the taghut (tyranny) both Euro-America as well as Arab and Muslim traitors - governments and peoples alike - who have resigned to becoming lynchpin conscripts to the Abraham Accord’s normalizing logics and all that animates it.
It is long overdue that every Muslim, believer, and aspiring freedom fighter adopt the Yemeni peoples and Ansar Allāh’s call that: “By Allāh, even if you burn Sana’a to ashes and eviscerate all of us, we will not let Gaza die of hunger nor its people go.”
It is time for all of us to emulate the character of the blessed Palestinian resistance, that of the Prophet Muhammad’s example, and to truly embody the Qurānic dictum: “Rise, for Allāh does not approve of you living humiliated. Carry the banners freely and bear a heavy burden. It was not you who killed them, rather it was Allāh who did. And you did not throw when you threw, but it was Allāh who threw. He might test the believers with a good test.” (Chapter 8, “Spoils of War,” Verse:17)
As for our enemies, as our beloved General Sinwar and elders once warned you: “[Welcome] to [our great] destructive flood! [Welcome to our long awaited] warning of a revolutionary volcano that will transform into a terrifying flood! Striking fear into the normalizers, coordinators, and occupiers.”
Until the Euro-American left takes the time to contend with their own Islāmophobia and understand Islām and faith in the context of the resistance, their analysis will always be woefully incomplete. The mujahideen are offering us all a vital and robust roadmap at this critical juncture of battle, and Islām sits not on the periphery but at the bosom of the struggle.
We pray to Allāh to guide and strengthen our peoples, movements, our mujahideen, our prisoners, their families, and accept our martyrdom, for “Never say that those martyred in the cause of Allāh are dead—in fact, they are alive! But you do not perceive it” (Chapter 2, “The Cow,” Verse: 154). In Islām, every martyr, from Yahya Sinwar to Hind Rajab to Wadee Al-Fayoumi to Refaat Alareer, is alive and with us in the present, walking alongside us, fortifying our hearts, and guiding each of our steps towards a just and victorious future.
